The formation of the Scarborough &
District Branch Royal Marines Association was initially conceived after a long discussion, with my comrade Phil (Scouse) McKenzie
whilst partaking in a TOT during an RNA Trafalgar Dinner Night in October 2007. The
concept came about with the deterioration of the York Branch RMA which, was and still is in doubt to its continuation.
The inaugural meeting was held in the
top lounge of the Conservative Club, (Huntriss Row) on 1st November 2007 whereby 12 members attended. After a news article published within the Scarborough Evening News on 7th November 2007 the
phone calls came flooding in.
The next Meeting was held on Sunday
9th December 2007 when we recruited a further 13 members. The monthly
meeting are now held on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 1100 hours within the Conservative Club.
The official meeting was held on Sunday
9th March 2008 where I was initially elected as Chairman and Scouse as Secretary.
Further positions where then appointed during the next few months with William (Bill) Paton elected as Treasurer and
Clive Linton as Standard Bearer.
The Branch has now grown to a substantial
membership of 31, but we are always looking to increase.
Finally I would like to convey my thanks,
especially to Scouse, and to all members for their dedication and commitment in making this Branch a success.
Lawrie Audley
(Chairman)
